                                                                  DAY 214

                                                 DAVID ROBERTS, Examined:

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Very well.

MR. RAMPTON: We do not need to worry about -- have you got the
       first sheet open?
       A. Yes, I have, yes.

  Q. The date on the right-hand top corner is 8.11.94. If you
look -- I am afraid I have not numbered these -- about a
fifth or a quarter of the way up from the bottom, we see
the name "Mr. Beech". See if you can find that. The
number is 994464, I think. Do you see that? Tell me when
       you have found it.
       A. I have got it.

  Q. It is between -- have you got it?
       A. I have got it.

  Q. There is a row of noughts, until you get to "Holiday pay"
and "Employees gross" which is just over half way along.
Do you see? According to this document, under "Holiday
pay" there is a figure, the precise figure of £59.72?
       A. That is right.

  Q. Mr. Beech's last payroll period ended, I think, on
24th September which is about six weeks maybe before this
payroll period ends. Can you explain, if this means that
Mr. Beech was, indeed, paid his outstanding holiday pay,
why it is that it does not appear until 8th November,
       5th November?
       A. He has actually been paid his holiday pay. It was
-- all I can assume is that one pay period was missed as
error, or that he was not terminated on the actual Hunter
itself on time. Therefore, that is the reason for the
delay because it would have waited for another two weeks
after that date for it to come through.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Where do you get that he has actually been
       paid his holiday pay?
       A. It is on the "Holiday pay" section. It is more or less
       in the middle.

  Q. Where it says "Holiday pay"?
       A. Yes, if you just trace it down, it says the amount that
has been paid to them. The bank details are on the
right-hand side, so it would have automatically gone
       through into the bank account.

MR. RAMPTON: That is what I was going to ask you. You see, you
use the word "automatically". One can see from the
succeeding sheet that is, in fact, his last entry. It does
not appear again. What happens when a person is terminated
in this way by the computer? What happens in respects of
       outstanding pay or anything else?
       A. When the termination is done on the computer itself,
you put in a leaving date and a leaving code. We have a
list of codes. There is about 20 different codes. He was
-- as soon as that code is entered and the information is
stored on the computer, he will then be taken off
automatically from the Hunter, and our payroll department
will -- they look at the code and if he is entitled to his
