DAY 214
DAVID ROBERTS, Examined:
A. That is correct, yes, under the "Net pay" column, that
is what they actually get in their bank account.

Q. Thank you. If you would not mind putting that on one
side? Do not put it back in the shelf.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could I just ask you, what does the employee
actually receive by way of -- it is all done by automatic
transfer, their fortnightly pay, but what, if anything,
does the employee actually receive to inform him or her of
as to what the pay net pay is and how it has been reached?
A. The employee receives, on the Thursday or the Friday
that they have been paid, a payslip, which is a
confidential payslip, and it will state how many hours they
have worked.

Q. But how is that handed to them or transferred to them; does
it go by post, or is it -----
A. No. It is delivered to the restaurant by post.

Q. And then what happens?
A. It depends on different restaurants and the system that
they use. The system I would use is a folder, A to Z
folder, and when the payslips -- they come in one lump, all
together, and we separate them, and we put them in
alphabetically, and they can come round and look for them,
because it will be left in the Manager's desk area.

Q. So, they just come and get their own out, do they?
A. Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Then what happens if, like in the case of
Mr. Beech, the employee has, in fact, left some weeks
beforehand, so he is not in the restaurant to collect any
piece of paper; does he get sent anything or not?
A. No. The payslip will be retained in the store for
collection ---

Q. I see.
A. -- unless they specifically ask for it to be sent on.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Now, if you just put the Heathrow file to one side
and replace it with Mr. Beech's second statement.
A. Yes.

Q. We will go on with Mr. Beech's second statement. We had
got to the bottom of the page, "Understaffing". He says:
"Sometimes Managers would shout to work faster and staff
would shout back 'get more staff', as it was impossible to
work faster."

I only have one question about that. Did you ever hear an
incident of that kind?
A. No.

Q. Turn over the page, please, "Food Integrity".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I must say, if anything has the ring of
