DAY 214
DAVID ROBERTS, Cross-examined:
that is correct. Why would someone be left on the payroll
six weeks after they had left?
A. It would be two weeks. It would definitely be -- it
could be between two and three weeks after someone has left
anyway, because the payroll ends on a certain day. It is
not individual to each individual.

Q. So, generally speaking, how long should people remain on
the payroll after they have left?
A. On the payroll report, it would usually come through
three weeks afterwards.

Q. What, they would be deleted, their name would be deleted?
A. That is correct, yes.

Q. That is basically what happens in most stores, is it,
across the country?
A. I cannot speak for all the other stores.

Q. Well, all the ones you have worked in, that has been the
case, has it?
A. Generally, yes.

Q. You said something to the effect that Mr. Beech must have
stayed on there longer because his leaving code had not
been entered, or something?
A. That is right, yes.

Q. So how long does it take from the entering of the leaving
code to people being deleted from the payroll; is that the
three weeks?
A. It depends on when it is done within that pay period.
Obviously, if it was right at the beginning, it would take
almost three weeks; if it was towards the end, it could
take four or five days.

Q. Can you explain that a bit more?
A. The pay period runs from Saturday, through one Saturday
to the next Saturday, two weeks. The actual payslips come
through on the Friday following. So that is nearly three
weeks. Now, if somebody leaves and they miss by one day,
it can, in effect, be three weeks.

Q. But people should be terminated when, the day they leave
or, like, from the -- I think you said the Husky system, or
something?
A. Yes. As close to the day they have left as possible,
yes.

Q. So, if Mr. Beech is still on there six weeks later, when
must it have been entered in the Husky system that he had
left?
A. I have not worked out exactly when it would have been.

Q. That must not have been done for four or five weeks,
something like that?
A. Yes. One pay period was missed; it was not done
immediately.

Q. It must have been two pay periods, must it not?
