DAY 214
DAVID ROBERTS, Cross-examined:
yes?
A. Yes.

Q. How long do you think that had been the situation?
A. For how long had I had that many?

Q. Yes.
A. Probably for, I would say, four or five weeks before
that and before that it was just rising towards that.

Q. Right. So, before that you did not feel that you had
enough staff to ---
A. I did. I felt -----

Q. -- meet all your needs?
A. I felt I did, yes.

Q. You felt you did?
A. Yes.

Q. But you thought you would increase the number of staff
anyway?
A. No, it was, like I explained to you, I wanted to make
sure that I helped the group and that I had people trained
up for them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could someone just tell me what page number
we are now on on the screen?

MS. STEEL: 37.29.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 37? Just the page number. 37. The line
number?

MR. RAMPTON: Now 34, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.

MS. STEEL (To the witness): So, you were not bothered about
your labour costs at all?
A. I have not said that.

Q. So you were bothered about your labour costs?
A. Yes, I was.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is a frame of mind which does not fit
either of those questions, is there not? 90 per cent of
one's life falls into it probably.

MS. STEEL: He said he was bothered about his labour costs
anyway.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, but pursue him on that, if you say he
has said it.

MS. STEEL (To the witness): But what labour costs were you
trying to adhere to?
A. I was trying to run the business effectively on the
amount of people that I needed.
