                                                                  DAY 216

                                            KATHERINE HARRISON, Examined:

so hours. At the Colchester store, I usually worked four
out of five weekdays, and Saturdays from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00
or 5.00 p.m.. At Romford, I was fully flexible and so
worked hours all over the place. I sometimes worked until
4.00 a.m. at the Romford store, after starting at 5.00 p.m.
I was aware of other people working long shifts, as I was
an opener at Colchester and would see people still there
after all night closes. People would be asked to stay
late, but it was manipulative. Things were made awkward if
       you did not agree.

"I recall late closes approximately every couple of months
when big wigs were visiting. There would be panic about
the visits. If I finished at 1.00 a.m., a taxi would be
paid for, but I lived 14 miles outside Colchester, so they
knew that that was the only way they could get me to work
late. I did not generally work later than 1.00 a.m.
because I was usually in again early the next morning.

"I witnessed under 18 year olds working past the legal
hours at Romford, Colchester and Birmingham. They were
usually asked to stay on. I am not aware of how they were
       paid.

"I recall times at Colchester when my paid hours were
short. I queried this with the Managers (Martin Holloway
and Mark Davis) and the pay would be added to the next
payslip. I kept a record of the hours I worked, so I knew
       they were short."

Can I just ask about this? Mark Davis said that at the
Colchester store there were what he called payroll
surgeries that were held for crew to complain about their
pay. Was that where you complained; or what do you know
       about that?
       A. I do not know anything about payroll surgeries.

  Q. So you went to him individually, or ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- the Manager individually?
       A. Yes.

  Q. When you say you do not know anything about them, what do
       you mean?
       A. I do not know what a payroll surgery is. I would not
       know.

  Q. You are certainly not aware of a payroll surgery taking
       place every two weeks?
       A. No.

  Q. Reading on: "I remember the McDonald's Freedom Fighters,
but I was not part of it. I recall that Paul Jackson was
dismissed. I went to a lot of crew meetings and rap
sessions to try and make my feelings felt, but although it
might make things different for a week or two, it was no
good in the long run. You had to keep complaining to get
       things done.
