DAY 216
KATHERINE HARRISON, Cross-examined:
A. Yes.

Q. Are you the wife of Kevin Harrison?
A. Yes.

Q. Were you, at one time anyway, Kate Scannell?
A. Yes.

Q. Can you tell me when you worked at Sainsbury's?
A. When?

Q. When, yes.
A. I started there in August 1993.

Q. 1993; and when did you last work at McDonald's?
A. That would be at Birmingham; January 1989 I left there.

Q. So you cannot really compare the wages that were paid at
Sainsbury's in 1993 with what you got at McDonald's in
1989, can you?
A. I cannot compare them?

Q. No. It is not a fair comparison, is it?
A. What, because of the timescale?

Q. Yes.
A. Well -----

Q. Do you agree or not?
A. Well, I agree that the wages that I was receiving were
better. My pay was never incorrect.

Q. Whether you feel cross with me or not, can you try and
shout at me? It is very difficult to hear.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you keep your voice up? It is a big
court ---
A. I will try.

Q. -- and your voice easily gets lost.
A. OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are not the only person who has had the
problem. Try and speak up.

MR. RAMPTON: I have sort of added it up, and tell me if I am
wrong. On and off, you did work for McDonald's for about
three and a half years?
A. Yes.

Q. It cannot really have been quite such an awful place, if
you worked for as long as that, can it?
A. I needed the money. I could not get another job.
I had a mortgage to pay.

Q. You did not think of going to Sainsbury's in the late
1980s?
A. Well, I moved around a lot. Under the circumstances,
when I left McDonald's at Birmingham I went straight to the
box office in the NEC. So I have moved around a lot, and
