                                                                  DAY 216

                                          KEVIN HARRISON, Cross-examined:

     1
2 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Shall I put them eventually behind -----
     3
4 MR. RAMPTON: Behind Mr. Harrison's statement, my Lord,
5 I suggest. I hope it is there, Mr. Harrison. There are
     6 some typewritten pages.
7 A. This is the McDonald's application form? Yes.
     8
9 Q. Yes. It is called trainee management application form.
10 There is only one sheet of it, I think, that you have got
11 there. Do you see the box at the bottom?
    12 A. Yes.
    13
14 Q. Is this your handwriting?
    15 A. Indeed.
    16
17 Q. Does it say: "Would prefer to complete training within a
18 reasonable distance of present address, afterwards mobility
    19 perfectly acceptable"?
20 A. Well, what you put on an application form to get a job
21 is quite often not the same sort of thing as you would
22 actually want. That is why I stressed the point that in
23 the interview situation I asked if it was likely that
24 I would be staying at Colchester, and I was given to
25 believe that I would be.
    26
27 Q. You know, do you not, that your contract as a trainee
28 Manager entitles the Company to move you at any time?
29 A. Which is what they did.
    30
31 Q. What you are complaining about is that your wishes were not
    32 sufficiently well accommodated?
33 A. I am more or less complaining about the way that it was
34 done. As I see it, it was an example of a dictatorial
35 management structure: "You will do this immediately."
    36
37 Q. Telling people what to do, that is dictatorial, is it; is
    38 that what you mean?
    39 A. Yes.
    40
41 Q. What other large businesses have you worked in,
    42 Mr. Harrison?
43 A. I worked briefly for Pizza Hut; I have worked within
44 the Post Office; I now work for the NHS.
    45
46 Q. Do your experiences of Pizza Hut and the Post Office fall
47 into the same framework, dictatorial management, that you
48 have spoken about in relation to McDonald's?
49 A. To an extent, Pizza Hut did, which is one of the
50 reasons, again, why I left them after a very short time.
51 But in no other work environment that I have experienced
52 have I come across quite same sort of attitude.
    53
54 Q. How long did you work for Pizza Hut?
    55 A. A matter of months.
    56
57 Q. How long for the Post Office?
    58 A. Again, a relatively brief time.
    59
60 Q. How long have you been a psychiatric nurse?

                                      34
