Day 216 - 06 02 96 - Page 47

                                                                  DAY 216

                                             KEVIN HARRISON, Re-examined:

cross-examination until the person who has called a witness
has a transcript of his evidence-in-chief.

MS. STEEL: I do not think that is -- I mean, it is just that it
is different when you go straight on because it is all
still fresh in your mind what people have said, and things
like that, but where there is a gap and it is quite, I do
not know, because a lot of it was quite complex and was
commenting on what Plaintiffs' witnesses had said and stuff
like that, it is kind of -- I do not know. I mean, I find
it quite hard to follow and remember exactly what has been
       said.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: All he is doing is coming back for
cross-examination and then re-examination which arises out
of cross-examination. So, I would like you to see if you
can get him to come back on the Monday afternoon, the
Tuesday or Wednesday. How long should be allowed for
       Mr. Logan, Mr. Rampton?

MR. RAMPTON: It will be sensible to allow -- I do not say
I will take it -- two days on his return. It might only be
a day. But there are a lot of documents, as I recall. In
other words, what I am really saying is it would not be
sensible for him to, as it were, pack his bags, or expect
him to pack his bags, on the first day.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I would like you to do, and I am only
suggesting this because if I can help with the scheduling
that is probably a good thing, is see if he can come either
on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning of next week.

  MR. MORRIS: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But also see whether Mr. Brett and Mr. Olive
can be fitted in during that time because you have two and
a half days. If it is reasonable to conclude from what
Mr. Rampton said that it is unlikely that he will, in fact,
need more than a day and a half, I would have thought
Mr. Olive and Mr. Brett could be got into a day between
them and there you have two and a half days of witnesses,
and we will probably find that we have time to spare. If
we have, we can all go away early to prepare for the
       environment rainforest witnesses.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, I will attempt to do that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Make a determined effort in relation to that,
please, and then you can let me know on Friday when we come
back for Mrs. Hovi what the position is. Have you
cancelled the appointment on the afternoon of the 9th
       again?

MR. MORRIS: No, I have not. I put it back to four o'clock.
But if it looks like she is near finishing, then -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep it at four and we will see how we go.

MR. MORRIS: I will be happy to leave and let Ms. Steel deal
with it. Obviously, it depends how much material left
