DAY 217
MRS. HOVI, Examined:
layout of the ------

Q. By "changes", you mean inconsistencies, do you?
A. I do not know whether Jarrets has actually carried out
these changes after I worked there. I have no idea.

Q. I am sorry. I think it is probably my fault. We are at
cross-purposes. What I am asking you -- and perhaps
I should leave it to Mr. Morris and Mr. Rampton, but I have
embarked on it now -- is whether you have noticed anything
on this plan which is not as it was when you were there.
Do you understand?
A. Yes. I have ------

Q. You told me about the pithing rod sterilizer; you told me
about the puller chain sterilizer; you told me about the
boot wash.
A. Those are all the changes, all the differences. (Pause)
Well, now, I am sorry, I have to come back on that one.
When I gave evidence last time, I said that there was a
door into the hide and skins room from the slaughter line,
through which the bins were wheeled on to the dirty side of
the abattoir. This door has been marked in a more accurate
way now, or it has been left out in a way now, because what
they want to say exists there is another chute coming from
the platform.

MR. MORRIS: Another chute into the hide and skins room?
A. Yes. The other chute did exist, but underneath the
other chute there is a proper door that connects the hides
and skins room and the abattoir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So where the chute goes through, are you
saying -----
A. The chute goes into the hides and skins room. It comes
from a high platform.

Q. Where was the double rubber door?
A. It is underneath the chute.

Q. When you say "is", you mean in April 1994 when you were
there it was?
A. That is right. Mr. Bone admitted in his statement that
these bins were actually wheeled through such a door.

MR. MORRIS: I do not know if it is necessary to go through
this. There are quite a lot of differences in the two maps
from before and now. But, really, it is up to Mr. Rampton
to put, I would have thought, because, I mean, just simple
things I can see immediately are different or .....

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It is accepted that there are a lot of
differences. Mr. Bone gives his explanation, or his
statement does, of why there are differences. So it seems
to me what I have to concern myself with is whether,
granted that the first plan was an inaccurate one, this new
plan is an accurate portrayal of the plant as it was when
Mrs. Hovi was there in April 1994. She has told me of four
instances -- respects, rather -- in which she says it is
not an accurate portrayal of the position when she was
