                                                                  DAY 217

                                                     MRS. HOVI, Examined:

1 A. So, I feel that we have finished with the paragraph
2 number 9. As far as the situation was concerned in
3 April 1994, the men changed in the mess outside and had to
4 enter the room from outside. There was no boot wash at the
5 time for them to be able to wash their boots when they
     6 entered the slaughter hall.
     7
8 Paragraph number 10, page 7, the only thing I would like to
9 say is that I do not feel that I was incorrect in my
10 statement about the boot wash. The boot wash did not
11 exist, and the discussions I had with Mr. Jarret about the
12 boot wash are as I recall them.
    13
14 Paragraph number 12, page 8, as Mr. Rampton said, there are
15 two different, two separate bins. One bin is for the back
16 feet, and it is situated where it is marked on the map,
17 "hind feet bin"; and that bin obviously would not need to
18 be wheeled through the slaughter line since it is already
19 on the dirty side of the slaughter line. The other bin is,
20 as far as I can see, not marked, and that bin is ------
    21
22 MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is marked.
    23
24 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you point it out, please?
    25
26 MR. RAMPTON: It is easier for this purpose if one uses the
27 large scale map, because it is much easier to read. It is
28 to the left of the plan about in the middle. There is a
29 big words in black, "Lairage", and it is the first thing
30 you come to if you go to the right of "Lairage"; it is
31 called "fore feet bin", and it is below "two ground men" at
    32 "head removal" area.
    33
    34 THE WITNESS: All right.
    35
36 MR. RAMPTON: It is beside a sterilizer.
    37
38 MR. MORRIS: It is on the large map as well.
    39
40 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Which is the first bin you have referred to?
41 That is the hind feet bin, is it?
    42
43 MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, that is right.
    44
45 MR. JUSTICE BELL: So, it is the hind feet bin which did not
46 have to be wheeled through?
47 A. Yes. I can see it now. It is just that it would not
48 have been in that position while the line was going. It
49 would be quite far from the line. So, usually, it would be
50 perhaps next to the horn cutter sterilizer. That is where
51 the bin would be while the line is on operation.
    52
53 MR. MORRIS: That is the hind feet?
54 A. That is the fore feet bin, where also the horns of the
55 animals went, if there were any horns.
    56
    57 Q. Right.
58 A. That bin, obviously, had to be wheeled across the line
59 and was often -- I personally stopped them from wheeling
60 the bin across the line several times during the operation,

                                      13
