                                                                  DAY 217

                                                     MRS. HOVI, Examined:

MR. MORRIS: It looks like on at that day, page 3, they were
actually slaughters lambs during the rest of the period
when they were not slaughtering. So what was the case?
Was it the case when lambs were slaughtered, that the same
       people would ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- move on to another part?
       A. Yes. The two lines never worked at the same time. It
would have been impossible. There was not enough space for
       that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We are sticking to cattle, for the purposes
       of this.

MR. MORRIS: I am just trying to show that there is an
indication there that they had no choice, they had to cram
the slaughtering in the periods they had for the cattle,
       set aside for cattle.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I thought you said there were two lines?
       A. Yes, but they could not operate the two lines
       together. They would have -----

MR. MORRIS: And the same people would -----
       A. The same people operated on the two lines, yes.

  Q. Same job.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It looks as if they did the lambs in the
break between 12.20 and 2.35, does it not?
       A. That is right.

  Q. They did lambs in the middle of the day?
       A. Yes. That was often the case if we were short of
cattle. They usually had a reserve stock of lambs on the
grounds outside the abattoir that they could slaughter.

  Q. Yes. I think you had said, before Mr. Morris asked you to
go back to the documents; were you saying that that was it
       on Mr. Bone's statement?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Have you anything else to say about -- have you
       finished with that paragraph, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Oh, that is the whole statement?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: She has finished with Mr. Bone's statement.

MR. MORRIS: Hold on a second. Mr. Bone says at the bottom of
paragraph 42: "The line speed was neither stopped nor
reduced at Jarrets while Ms. Hovi was there."
       A. Well, as I said earlier, I often regulated the line
speed by regulating the stunning of the animals. I did
that almost on a daily basis. But, as I said earlier,
I found that the situation was not something we could
