Day 236 - 17 04 96 - Page 9
Day 236
show her as clear as anything. Anyhow, she has admitted on
affidavit that she is there. So that is the first thing.
For the following one, which was the 16th October 1990,
there are both photographs and a video. Again, she is to
be seen on both of those. Thereafter, the next one is the
21st May 1991, and both Defendants are in both sets of
record, and so on through the relevant documents. They
have become, obviously, of less interest as time goes by in
some sense.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know what the total length of all the
videos or bits of videos to which Mr. Carroll refers is?

MR. RAMPTON: If one were to sit and see the whole of them?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: No, I am afraid I do not but it is not agonisingly
long. They are pretty boring, so it is agonising in that
sense, but they are not unduly long. I watched them.
Having said no, I do not know the answer; I think I
probably do know the answer. I watched them yesterday
afternoon.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is Mr. Carroll in court?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, he is, and I think it takes about an hour and
a bit. Yes, about an hour to see the whole lot.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Are they on different reels or have they been
edited on to one?

MR. RAMPTON: Each one is on a different reel.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They are all on different cassettes, are
they?

MR. RAMPTON: They are all at the beginning. We have wound them
all back and they start at the beginning.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So they are separate cassettes. You go
straight into that, rather than other material?

MR. RAMPTON: That is right. Each one is separate and each one
has a date on them, and I have now got the dates correct.
In addition, each of the recordings, I think I am right in
saying, has actually got the date on the film; most of
them. But I doubt whether they are in the least bit
controversial because, as I say, when the Defendants are in
them, as Ms. Steel always is, and Mr. Morris is from the
21st May onwards, one can see them as plain as day. That
is not a problem. There are other people in them, of
course.

I would propose, the way I would examine Mr. Carroll is one
done, at any rate, for most of this case; at any rate
recently, is to ask him whether he made the statements
which we have got and, in essence, whether they are true or
not, and then leave him to be cross-examined.
