                                                                  Day 236

                                        TERENCE EDMUND CARROLL - EXAMINED

1 October 1991 so far as I know. I want you to look, whether
2 on your page or in my hand, at the heading. Do you see,
3 "What is wrong with McDonald's?" and then a reduction of
     4 the cartoon?
5 A. Yes, that is right.
     6
7 Q. On the right-hand side and then a block of print?
     8 A. Yes.
     9
10 Q. Did the single sheet, whether in pink or in white, which
11 you saw distributed in October 1989 bear any resemblance to
    12 that?
13 A. Do you mean this one? (Indicating)
    14
15 Q. No, not that one. The single sheet one which you said was
    16 also distributed?
    17 A. Yes, it did.
    18
19 Q. Thank you. Did it therefore have a block of writing on the
    20 front page?
    21 A. Yes, it did.
    22
23 Q. When you saw Ms. Steel distributing copies of the fold-out
24 leaflet with the big cartoon, the heading and sub-heading
25 but no writing on the front on 16th October 1989, how far
26 away from her were you, do you think, when you saw that
    27 happen?
28 A. She moved about. She was by the steps at one time and
29 then moved further down towards the Underground Station
30 which would have been 30/40 yards away, furthest away.
31 Nearest, I should think, as I say, as close as I am to.
    32
    33 Q. When she was?
34 A. When she was handing them out.
    35
36 Q. As to the demonstrators generally, you said that Ms. Steel
37 moved round and we have seen her holding a banner?
    38 A. Yes.
    39
40 Q. And you said you saw her distributing these leaflets. What
41 about the rest of them. Did they all stick at one thing
    42 or?
43 A. No, they were swopping jobs, as it were, at times.
    44
45 Q. At that date, were you able to identify anyone else among
46 the demonstrators apart from Mr. Gravett and Ms. Steel?
    47 A. No.
    48
49 Q. I have one final question on this: You said you think you
50 probably managed to obtain copies of the fold-out leaflet,
51 the words complained of in this case, running to probably
52 double figures I think you have said?
53 A. I would think it was about that, yes, Mr. Rampton.
    54
55 Q. Have you retained at McDonald's any of those yourselves or
56 were they all sent to the solicitors?
57 A. They were all sent to the solicitors.
    58
59 Q. Apart from sending them to the solicitors, do you remember
60 whether you showed them to anybody else at the time in

                                      43
