Day 237 - 18 04 96 - Page 5

       respect?
       A. I do say it is about 1987; it could have been 86.

  Q. Or 85?
       A. I do not think it was 85. It was probably 86.

  Q. You are a bit hazy?
       A. A bit hazy about the actual date that I first saw the
       leaflet complained of.

  Q. Do you remember the circumstances of how you became aware
       of it?
       A. No, I think it was passed to us as being presented
outside some of our restaurants. It was put through on
what they call an incident report form that this had been
handed out, but then we had several come in about late 86,
       87 time.

  Q. Do you give instructions out to all the branches then about
what they should do if there is a picket of their store or
       leafleting of their store?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What are those instructions?
       A. The instructions are normally depending on the size of
the picket, on the mood of the picketers, as to whether we
call the police to assist us, or whether we deal with the
matter ourselves; in other words, it is left very much to
the judgment of the officer or the man in charge of the
restaurant. But his instructions would be any problems
arising from a picket or a demonstration outside it would
be to call the police and abide by their decision.

  Q. Right. But what other steps, apart from calling the
       Police, are taken?
       A. Well, obviously to ensure that the picketers do not get
inside the restaurant and disrupt people while having their
       meals.

  Q. I am talking about in terms of obtaining copies of the
       leaflet, taking photographs of demonstrators?
       A. If it is at all possible to take photographs of
demonstrators (and it is not always), yes, I would like
copies of photographs and I would like copies of any
literature which is being handed out.

  Q. That is your instructions to the stores?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Those are collated by you then, not collated regionally?
       A. Originally, they were collated by me, but now they are
       collated regionally.

  Q. When did that changeover take place?
       A. When we became more regionalised, which would be about
-- again my memory is not too clear on it -- about 1990,
       1991.

  Q. Then you kept files on all the pickets that had occurred,
any photographs that were obtained and any leaflets that
