Day 237 - 18 04 96 - Page 11

  Q. Is the Company still using inquiry agents to investigate
       London Greenpeace?
       A. Not to my knowledge.

  Q. Do you know when it stopped?
       A. I assume it was about 1992, but I am not certain.
Again, I was not actually that privy to it. I had --
I used to attend meetings at Barlows but, normally
speaking, I was there dealing with other matters involving
company business, and I was not that involved in the
       dealings with the private investigators.

  Q. So the private investigators continued coming to meetings
for a couple of years after the writs had been served?
       A. I would not like to say that; I honestly do not
       remember how long.

  Q. You said 1992 so .....
       A. I say that, it is a vague 92, it could have been 91.
I did not pay that much attention to the dates, to be
perfectly honest with you, and I was backwards and forwards
to Barlow Lyde & Gilbert on other matters quite unconnected
       with this case.

  Q. You were aware they carried on attending meetings quite a
while after the writs had been served in September 1990?
       A. I was not, but I will take your word for it.

  Q. You said that you assumed it was about 1992 that they
       stopped.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said: "I think the last one was in 1992",
       something to that effect.

MS. STEEL: You must be aware that was quite a while after the
       writs had been served?
       A. I am aware it is some time after the writs had been
served, but I was not that interested, or my job did not
entail to that extent dealing with the private
investigators. I am not sure whether it was 91 or 92 when
the operation ceased, or whether it was before then.
I just cannot give you a date.

  Q. So did Mr. Nicholson speak to you about this?
       A. When? Sorry, I spoke to Mr. Nicholson on many
       occasions.

  Q. Did he tell you what was going on with what the inquiry
agents were finding out? What the Company's plans were,
       things like that?
       A. We did have some discussions but they were fairly
       superficial ones.

  Q. Did he tell you what the purpose was for continuing to send
inquiry agents after the writs had been served?
       A. No.

  Q. Did you ever ask him about it?
       A. Not to my knowledge.
