Day 237 - 18 04 96 - Page 16

       A. Yes, there were, my Lord.

MS. STEEL: Presumably, you would have switched them on when
       the picket was taking place?
       A. I do not think we did actually.

  Q. Are they not left on all the time then?
       A. They are left on during the night time but not during
       the day.

  Q. Although you had security cameras on the outside of the
building which, presumably, would cover the entrance?
       A. Yes, but they are not terribly well sited for that
       particular entrance.

  Q. They do cover the entrance though?
       A. Yes, but not very well.

  Q. And the pavement outside?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Despite having them, you did not decide to switch them on
to make use of the videos for the information that you were
trying to collect about people picketing your company?
       A. No.

  Q. Was that your decision?
       A. No. It was not a conscious decision. It was just the
fact that they were not on.

  Q. It never even crossed anybody's mind?
       A. I do not think it was necessary at the time.

  Q. So although you hired extra security guards for the
purposes of the picket, you did not switch on the video
       cameras?
       A. No, not as far as I know.

  Q. So you do not know, they may have been switched on?
       A. I do not know, basically because they are in a
different place from where the security guard sits due to
the geography of the building. It would have meant someone
sitting there actually looking at the video instead of
being outside, and at that particular time I considered it
would be better to have somebody outside where the
       demonstration was.

  Q. You can leave a video running without anybody watching it,
       can you not?
       A. Yes, we can, but this particular case, I understand it
       was not done.

  Q. In photograph (14) in tab 5 -- sorry, it is tab 5 in pink
       II ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- the room that we can see the windows in, is that not the
security room with the video screens in it?
       A. No, that is the lobby at the foot of the stairs.
