Day 237 - 18 04 96 - Page 30

Q. So why did you say you will have them identified in due
course?
A. As I have already said, it is a turn of phrase which
I felt I should put in at that particular time. In the
event, when I sat down and thought about it, I did not
think it was necessary.

Q. Was that a decision of your own or was that a decision that
---
A. It was a decision ------

Q. -- you made in consultation with anybody else?
A. It was a decision of my own.

Q. Did you talk to anybody about it?
A. No.

Q. Did you send a memo to Mr. Preston and Mr. Nicholson and
Mrs. Brinley-Codd saying that you were not going to have
them identified after all?
A. No.

MR. MORRIS: Are you saying you did not intend to have them
identified in due course?
A. I thought I had made it clear. As far as I was
concerned, at that particular time when I wrote the report,
I felt it might be necessary. When I thought about it
I realised that it was not. I decided against identifying
them or trying to identify them.

Q. You decided it was not necessary ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- after you had your meeting with Patty Brinley-Codd, was
it?
A. No.

Q. You said you had a meeting with Patti Brinley-Codd
immediately after this ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just refer to her as "Mrs. Brinley-Codd".

THE WITNESS: It was not immediately, it was some time later.

MR. MORRIS: You said a couple of days later after the
demonstration?
A. Quite possibly, yes. I do not know actually when
I made that decision.

Q. This is written a couple days after the demonstration?
A. Yes.

Q. You intended to have them identified in due course when you
wrote this a couple of days after the demonstration, did
you not?
A. I intended to at the time I wrote this report but, in
the event, when I sat down to considered it, I considered
it to be unnecessary and a waste of my time.
