Day 237 - 18 04 96 - Page 33
A. Well, I am talking about afterwards I did not think it
was necessary to identify anybody else there.

Q. Except for two days later when you said that to the
President of the Company?
A. So -- yes.

Q. So, let me just get this straight. You are on a
demonstration; you are Head of Security; your job is to
monitor all the protests that are happening around the
country, especially ones where there are photographs being
taken, to find out the theme, pattern, main people, if they
are travelling around the country, whatever; here you have
a demonstration at the Headquarters; all the, you know,
main suspects there in front of your eyes; you have with
you someone from the Police information gathering ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just hold on a moment. Are all the main
suspects there in front of his eyes?

MR. MORRIS: Maybe, a lot them are likely to be there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have turned into a suspect and the one
thing I have noted is you were not there.

MR. MORRIS: It is not a secret. I was not there. (To the
witness): But the point was, so are you saying that you
decided after that demonstration that you should be
identifying all these people in due course?
A. I thought that I might need to identify these people in
due course. In the event, I decided that it was not
necessary, it was a waste of my time, I had better things
to do.

Q. So, on the demonstration what you are saying is you were
not trying to identify people at the demonstration, then
you decided that you would try to identify people, you
know, 48 hours later in this memo, and then a few days
after that you decided that you would not identify those
people?
A. That is right more or less, yes.

Q. Is that how you generally conduct your business?
A. It depends entirely on what the circumstances are and
how much weight I put on certain events, whether I decide
to carry on -- the same as anybody else in business making
decisions, circumstances change.

Q. These photographs that were sent to you when there were
pickets at various places, when you were trying to find out
if there is any common theme, individuals cropping up, that
kind of stuff, did you check after this demonstration at
the Headquarters, or even during, to see if any of the
photographs linked up with other protests?
A. No.

Q. You did not check?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What do you mean, the same people were in
