: A Christian with an open mind. Refreshing.Sometimes I get so tired of the arrogance displayed by most Christians.kath:
thank you. i was hoping not to come off sounding arrogant.
no i don't try to have all the answers, but i can try to offer my insight on your questions.
there are many things such as natural dissasters that are just simply beyond our controll. mud slides and hurricanes, they are just responding to the natural forces that act on them. laws of physics, chemistry and all that. i like the summary at the end of an episode of the simpson's: "maybe it's just a bunch of stuff that happened." these are things that for what ever reason, just happen beyond our controll.
i don't know why our lives are presented with such hardships. what we do have controll over are our actions and reactions to such dissasters. i think that there is some truth to the belief that Jesus or God (or what ever you believe to be your ultimate spiritual being)is your shepherd. He shepherds you in the way that he guides you in your decisions along the your path of your life as a shepherd guides his sheep. but in order to recieve this guidance, one must choose to follow. it's a spiritual journey, it takes place inside you and helps you grow to be a better, sounder person.
have you ever read the poem "foot prints"? i've made more sence of that one poem than probably any bible story i've read.
so while it may seem that God is asleep on the job, and that many lives are taken by natural disasters and the like, keep in mind that ultimately all of our lives will be taken in the end. i don't know any more than you what happens after death, so it just depends weather you consider death the worst fate that could befall any of us. the truth is that none of us know, it is something also beyond our controll. the one thing we can controll are our actions under these hard circumstances.
i hope this makes sence .
