The translation of the Bible does not refer to a translation in meaning, it refers to a translation of the language. Fom Hebrew to English, From Hebrew to French etc. If you watch a subtitled movie that is Italian, your going to get the same story and dialogue written in English along the bottom. the translation theory to dicredit the bible isn't a theory at all.
Wrong, unfortunately. You _aren't_ going to get exactly the same story, as each language has its own quirks and oddities; translation isn't just a matter of substituting word X for word Y and grokking by context. Translation _should_ be more true to the spirit of what is being said rather than the grammar. Translations from one language to another aren't (and never will be) perfect, as there are words and concepts that simply do not translate easily to other languages.
Can you explain machismo simply and economically without using the Spanish? Could you explain the idea of the "midnight sun" to a Bengali using broken English? It's incredibly tough; I know because I've tried it (with a guard at Calcutta airport, if you must know).
Anything that is translated from one language will shift meaning or intonation slightly unless the statements are of juvenile simplicity (i.e. cat eats mouse, boy throws ball; that sort of thing.)
