 : Technically, "Hispanic" only applies to the residents of the island of Hispanola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic).  Some people of Mexican, South-, and Cental American heritage disavaow this label. "Mestizo/Mestiza" would have been the more accurate term in this context.  Consult your local MEChA chapter for details.
 SDF: Look, Floyd, sure, they're from all over the Americas, but let's acknowledge that most of the refugees from corporate imperialism that inhabit America's Spanish-speaking communities are from Mexico, and we could see this in California's protests against Proposition 187, when the protesters flew huge Mexican flags on TV and all.  I work with these people every day.  Didn't you think I knew they were a diverse bunch? BTW, I'd expect more Colombian refugees soon...
