: Don: Based upon the reviews, it seems to list cases in which "reason" has failed historicaly, one example being the way the "wiz kids" ran the Vietnam war. This is a dubious example: McNamera failed because his reason was flawed, not because reason is at nature flawed. McNamera did not take into account the fact that the knowledge he had was limited.

Qx: If all you can do is make a comment based on secondary sources and then assume that I'm a "Marxist supporter" then you would do yourself a service by letting other pro-capitalists do the debating here.

As far as your McNamara statement goes it's best to read it from the horse's mouth. If anything can be said about the knowledge McNamara and the other hawks possessed in Washington at that time it's that their faith in statistics was dubious. That's Reason taken to it's most idiotic extreme.

By the way, if you still take John Barron's writings about the Cold War so seriously you should at least understand that many other people here grew out of it over twenty years ago.

: Don: This type of problem with "reason" (i.e. limited knowledge) is typical of Marxism, so it is ironic that a supporter of Marx would like the book.
