White Comedy (poem)

Posted by: Benjamin Zephaniah ( UK ) on May 22, 1996 at 19:00:46:

This is a poem about language. It is also about political
correctness. As far as I'm concerned, political correctness is a very
Euro-centric idea. When I, as the average black British poet, took
the English language and politically corrected it from my
point-of-view I came up with a 'White Comedy'.

That's all good, but what's that got to do with McLibel?

Increase de peace.

Benjamin.

I waz white mailed by a white witch
Wid white magic an white lies
Branded a white sheep
I slaved as a white smith
Near a white spot
Where I suffered white water fever.
White listed as a white leg
I waz in de white book
As a master of de white arts
It waz like white death.

Some people call me white jack
Others hailed me de white wog
So I joined the white watch
Trained as a white guard
An lived off de white economy,
I waz caught an beaten by de white shirts
An condemned to a white mass.

Don't worry,
I will be writing to de Black House.
