I have second what Daddio was saying about dropping out of school; it can be like awaking from a coma. I can't say this would happen to everybody who drops out, but I think for certain people, maybe with certain traits (I don't know), they shut down when they are sent to school. They may not even look like they have shut down, but they have. I know when I was in school, I participated fairly well in most stuff, except homework, which I could never bear, but something about me was not there. In phys. ed, I participated vigorously everyday, and certainly did not appear half-dead, but at school, I was.

Today, I'm in University and about to drop out. I went in like ot was high school, it was virtually mandatory, (my parents picked a house by the University so it would be an easy travel, before I was even born.) As I get closer to my freedom however, I feel like I am awakening. I feel like I'm in grade two, but this time, the coma syndrome of school doesn't take over my body and spirit, but I am free to learn about the world. I have made, and continue to make, a connectedness with life, living, and learning. Until this connection is properly made, I think school is a hurtful place.
