I work with developmentally disabled adults in a group home. Many of these consumers are paid salaries that are the minimum wage even in fast food places. The consumers that work in workshops putting a top on a bottle for 5 hours a day however do receive a wage based on the amount per piece rate. These consumers bring home a two week wage of between $10 - $20 .00. But there's something you fail to realize. No matter where these consumers work, usually because of their disability and striving to be as they call it "like normal people" , they tend to be very meticulous (probably why it took so long to get you that all imporant Big Mac ) and are trying their best to do a great job. they are proud of themselves at the end of the day that they held a " real " job and did their job well. Have you realized the fact that I've been referring to the developmentally disabled as "consumers" ? this is the new lingo in the field. Why? Because they spend their hard earned Mc Donald's money buying item that help boost the economy and also so that people like you don't them condemn them from sponging off of you for through welfare. I'm sure this was going to be your next topic ......
