Chicken feathers in the shakes - true or false?

I heard a story about a kid having an allergic reaction to a milk shake. The doctors needed to know what was in it so they could save the boy's life. After to-ing and fro-ing with McD's, it emerged that crushed chicken feathers were used to bulk up the shakes. Knowing this the doctors saved the kid.

Is this true or false?
