: : You can't have it both ways, Sam.

: The difference is that 'black power' is a subversive call to racial equality, 'white power' is a call for supremacy, there are exceptions like Farraka but with my experience of parades I'd like to say that no one has any business organising exclusive alientating parades.

Given your location of residence, OK, I can see your point. "Silly season" is something most of your yank correspondents will never have to live through (inshallah!). The problem that I see is that your position makes sense if, and only if, ALL "pride" celebrations are banned. Clearly, then, we Yanks would have to ban the Macy's thanksgiving day parade, since it excludes non-yanks (as well as being damned offensive to many First Nations/Indian/Native American groups) and the 4th of July parades for the same reason (plus these could be considered offensive to the British). Christmas mass has to be next, since it offends the sensibilities of Jews, Moslems, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Taoists, and those darned bells wake the poor agnostics up way too early in the morning on one of their rare days off! ;-) The Palm Sunday march is next on the list, for exactly the same reason and, while we're at it, the procession of the holy host from the nave to the altar every sunday is also a kind of "pride march."
Lark, you obviously see the problem of extending your philosophy. I'll not belabor the point further. Tolerance of others is the surest guarantee of finding allies when someone imposes their own intolerance on you. You don't have to wear someone else's hat in order to say "that looks good on you," right brother?
