I said the absence of the death penalty would be strategic for class struggle, not the other way around.

Morals, like rights, are not absolute and ahistorical.

Like ideology, both morals and rights follow the material conditions and social relations of an epoch. For example, during times of war, many rights are suspended---and morals along with them. This demonstrates that both are social and historical constructs.

'Baying for blood'? I'm not sure where you came up with this one---your head, perhaps?
