Thanks for the support. It's good to know that somewhere in the world local people were successful in keeping things the way they wanted. We've got our local council on our side, and at a recent planning meeting there were plenty of residents out to show that they didn't want a McDonalds. We know that they can trade on the site with their current planning permissions, but we're hoping that petitions, posters and peaceful protests will win the day. Lets hope that our local McD's stays miles away, in an area more suited to that type of development !

I think that its up to the UK government to wake up to the fact that take-aways, burger-bars and fast-food drive ins are not the same as restaurants and pubs when it comes to planning. Unfortunately they're all grouped together in the same band of permisisons. We need a change in the law to represent what most people regard as common sense. And you know how likely (and how quick) that will happen !
