Febreeze (by Proctor & Gamble) harmful to pets

Posted by: Pete L. ( USA ) on March 29, 1999 at 15:51:51:

We recently received an e-mail forwarded to us regarding a chemical compound called zinc chloride which is in Febreeze odor remover manufactured/produced by Proctor & Gamble. We are not sure of the accuracy of the source, but if any of the information is true we felt is very important to share the information. The message noted that the harmful element in Febreeze, Zinc Chloride, has been linked to the death of birds and some dogs. Also noted are other dogs that have become very ill. The bottle as of December 1998 has a picture on the back of a dog (for dog odors) which would lead some people to believe it is safe to use in pets bedding. As a pet owner we were very disturbed and upset to hear of this information, and hope that any or all of it is not true!
