Doubtless, McDonald's has hired an anti-union consulting firm to deal with your drive to organize. The very first thing they do is put on the "concerned employer" mask. They announce all new "open door" policies. They may even fire or transfer an unpopular supervisor or manager. Keep in mind the old union maxim... if this is what happens when you and your co-workers *talk* union, imagine how much better things will be when you actually *form* a union.
Also watch what happens when the "carrot" doesn't work... out comes the "stick". Your employer may try to frighten or intimidate you with talk of strikes, union violence, union "bosses" and the like. He may talk to you about the high cost of union dues and say things like "if you vote the union in, we will not be able to give that raise we were thinking about." Don't believe 'em.
One other point... they will use the supervisors to make these threats and start these rumors. Keep a jaded eye on them.
So which union are you organizing with? SEIU perhaps? Keep us informed. All the best --Krasny
