BSE:

"BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY FOR FARMERS"

"Your beef industry is not in crisis", says former cattle rancher Howard Lyman. "It's taking an evolutiotiary leap. Smart farmers will seize this opportunity of a lifetime."

Howard Lyman knows what he's talking about. Originally from Montana-the heart of American beef country - his ranch had a thousand rauge cows, five thousand feedlot cattle and countless thousands of arable acres. In 1979, he was paralysed by a tumour on his spinal cord. That changed his life forever. Miraculously, surgery restored his mobility. Selling his farm he became an advocate for small farmers, sustainable agriculture and the environment - going onto Washington DC as a lobbyist for the National Farmers Union. He worked for five years on Capitol Hill before becoming director of the Humane Society's Eating With Conscience campaign.

On Wednesday, Howard Lyman gives a timely press conference to the British media bringing a positive and personal message to his fellow-farmers. Also present at the Conference will be:

Peter Cox, leading food writer and researcher, author of best-seller 'The New Why You Don't Need Meat' which includes the only complete history of BSE.

Dan MilIs, solicitor and spokesperson for the McLibel Campaign, at which Howard Lyman is appearing as an expert witness
