Residents of Vermont town fight McDonald's plans

March 7 1996, Montpelier, Vermont (USA)
Citizens of Montpelier, Vermont, saw their battle against McDonald's elevated to the national American airwaves this week.

In a report anti-McDonald's campaigners described as "incredible" the CBS This Morning programme showed the best of Vermont and the spirit of townspeople in protecting the beauty of their town.

Montpelier is the last state capital in the United States not to have been graced with the McDonald's Golden Arches. One store does exist three miles out of town, but is locally reknowned for its ugliness.

According to CBS, citizens of Montpelier are determined to force the giant burger corporation to keep its distance.
