Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 45
information of you I see the part in that. But is there a
relevance apart from that in the questions? I mean, does
it matter in particular what sort of organisation it was
which was giving the information? Is it what the
information was? Is it when it came which is important?
Tell me.

MS. STEEL: It is a question of the reliability of the
evidence, but I was asking the information about workers
because, obviously, it might be relevant to the trade union
issue in the case, which Mr. Nicholson is obviously, you
know, responsible for.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is if you put a direct
question on it, then I will hopefully see what it is
directed at.

MS. STEEL: Right. (To the witness): What were the areas of
information that they were giving to you, the Economic
League were giving to you, just the broad headings?
A. Yes. It is difficult. I did not use them all that
much and Terry Carroll was the contact man. We may very
well have got reports on union activity, but it did not
register with me. It was nothing I was particularly
interested in. They certainly were helpful in the
Transnational case, or their information was helpful. They
never did any direct inquiries for you; they just reported
back on meetings they went to and on organisations they
kept appraised of.

Q. I think you said that they did a lot of work for you?
A. Well, no, not a lot. You mean, on the Transnational
case?

Q. In general.
A. No. They -- it is not something we were heavily
engaged in. It is a very small part of my job. It is
nothing I got involved in heavily. I think I have only met
one person from the Economic League in the 14 years I have
worked at McDonald's.

Q. Who was that?
A. I cannot remember now. He was one of the main
organisers.

Q. Was that to do with this case?
A. This case was certainly mentioned.

Q. What were you discussing with him?
A. I just asked him that anything he got hold of regarding
London Greenpeace he would send through to me.

Q. Do you remember when that was?
A. It would be after 1987. I mean, my interest in
London Greenpeace was not very high on my list of
priorities until well into 1987 and even then it was --
I had other things to do and other cases running. It was
not a high priority.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me just get the feel of it. At one time
