Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 47

  Q. Right.
       A. The Animal Liberation. I am not saying you; I mean,
       your organisation.

  Q. Yes. So, it was probable that it was the Economic League
that gave you something around '87/'88?
       A. It is possible, yes; that is what I said. I really
       cannot -----

  Q. About the Aims and Objectives?
       A. Yes. I really cannot remember where I got it from. It
may have come from your 1988 fayre which was attended by at
least three people from our organisation. But I am not
       sure where that came from.

MS. STEEL: Was it you who first subscribed to the Economic
       League, or was that ---
       A. No.

  Q. -- Mr. Carroll?
       A. Yes. He made, I think he made the contact.

  Q. Right. So that would have been some time after he joined
       the Company?
       A. Yes. I remember discussing with him the fee and
whether or not we felt it would be worthwhile. I was a bit
ambivalent about it at the beginning.

  Q. But in the end you thought it would be worthwhile?
       A. I just said, "Yes, go ahead". I mean, the fee itself
       was not anything great.

  Q. Was that shortly after he started at the Company?
       A. I cannot remember.

  Q. Now, when you visited Caledonian Road -- actually, sorry,
just on the Economic League, they sent you a regular
mailing about general information, a general magazine?
       A. Yes, I do not know how often.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: A newsletter, he described it as.

MS. STEEL: But they were also sending you information,
specific information on organisations such as
       Transnationals and London Greenpeace?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Right.
       A. Well, London Greenpeace came later. We used them all,
the Transnational; we got information from them. I did not
use them. I got information from them on the Transnational
       thing.

  Q. That was specific investigations as opposed to just a
       general newsletter kind of information?
       A. No, I do not think so. I think the information came
from them. They warned us that this pamphlet, this
leaflet, booklet, was going to come out.

  Q. The "Working for Big Mac"?
