are in our headquarters in Oakbrook. I do not determine
       how we package our product.

  Q. But each country has its own specific packaging
       requirements?
       A. Does it?

  Q. It has its own volume requirements -- each country has
       different packaging, does it not?
       A. Does it?

  Q. I am asking you.
       A. On some items they might have, but by and large they do
       not, no.

  Q. One country has wraps, another country has clam shells, one
has recycled content, one has less?
       A. As I have said ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We know all that, but if you are suggesting
that if you do have wraps they are different from one
country to another or clam shells are different from one
       country to another -----

MR. MORRIS: What I am asking is relating to environment/index.html">litter. Litter is
a serious social problem, is it not, in this country?
       A. In some areas, yes.

  Q. It takes a lot to collect; it takes a lot of effort and
time and it ends up in landfills one way or the other?
       A. It does.

  Q. Yes. You are not down playing, are you, the problems
caused by environment/index.html">litter in general and packaging?
       A. No.

  Q. So why does McDonald's use so much, such a high volume, so
many different types of packaging, why?
       A. To present -----

  Q. Why do you do it? Why do you cause so much packaging
materials to enter the waste stream and to end up as
environment/index.html">litter? What is the reason? I am trying to ask what the
       reason is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The reason is because they have chosen not to
use reusables. Now, that is the point. If you say that is
to be criticised on environmental grounds, have a go at
that, but we know why McDonald's use disposable packaging.

MR. MORRIS: Have you seriously looked into reusables in this
       country?
       A. No.

  Q. I think we can move on to another subject.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, if it is to be the Defendants' case that
McDonald's would confer great benefit on the environment or
on their customers or whatever by using reusables, then
they must put it to Mr. Oakley while he is here, in my
