of those had quite a lot of feathers missing?
       A. I do not know what your interpretation of a "large
number". Are you talking in terms of those millions? Are
you talking percentages? Are you talking out of the
       ordinary?

  Q. Can you tell us -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Might I suggest you put to him that it would
be fairly typical if one in so many were significantly
bald, or whatever it is, which you suggest is a typical
picture and then you can ask him to compare it with what we
       call farmyard chickens.

MS. STEEL: What percentage of the chickens that you saw had
significant bald patches or had areas of baldness?
       A. Let me say this, I have seen cages with various degrees
of baldness from nothing to probably 15 per cent of their
body. I cannot make an estimation of what incidence would
be, how to measure baldness and how to categorise or
classify, that degree of baldness within a battery
chicken. I can say that I have seen some of them, yes.
I have seen them. But I do not want to speculate and I do
       not have that data.

  Q. More than 50 per cent of the chickens you have seen have
       had that -----
       A. 15.

  Q. No, you said 15 of their body?
       A. What I said is I have seen degrees of baldness.

  Q. Yes.
       A. From zero per cent to 15 per cent of baldness. By that
I mean if you take the body to be 100 per cent, 15 per cent
of that body will not have feathers. That is what
       I intended to say.

  Q. Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I think Ms. Steel was putting it to you,
asking you whether more than 50 per cent of the chickens
you have seen would fall into the 15 per cent category?
       A. OK, no.

  MS. STEEL: You say "no"?
       A. No, I have not seen them.

  Q. Going back to your statement, the audits you have
       mentioned?
       A. Can you make a reference to what you are reading so
I can have the same access?

  Q. You said: "After the suppliers have been approved
initially they will subsequently be audited by the Quality
Assurance Department to ensure that they continue to comply
with the requirements set out in the specifications".

MR. RAMPTON: I wonder whether Ms. Steel is cross-examining
Dr. Gomez Gonzalez on his statement, he should not have a
