Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 46

you subscribed to an organisation called the Economic
       League?
       A. That is right, my Lord.

  Q. In return for that they regularly sent you information of
       various kinds?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Was that personalised, as it were, to McDonald's or was
that information they would send to all their subscribers?
       A. That is right. It is a newsletter kind of thing.

  Q. What sort of topics did it cover?
       A. It kept an eye on politics to a certain degree; it kept
an eye on left wing organisations. That kind of thing. It
was there to defend, as I understand it -- and I never
really looked into it very deeply -- they were there to
defend multi-nationals and the interest of multi-nationals.

MS. STEEL: That included reports on workers and other
individuals who multi-nationals might want to have
information about, people who organised strikes or people
       who are involved in protests?
       A. I do not think it was so much people; it was not
       individuals. It was organisations.

  Q. What was it that the Economic League told you about the
nature of the London Greenpeace organisation?
       A. Well, they were at this meeting organised by
Transnational Information Exchange, and these leaflets were
put out and we were discussed.

  Q. At the meeting?
       A. At the meeting, and the report was that we seemed to be
coming pretty top of the league for some disruptive action.

  Q. When was this?
       A. That would be around 1987; perhaps 1988.

  Q. This was after you had already seen the London Greenpeace
fact sheet that is the subject of this action?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: When you started off in your cross-examination you
were asked about where you first saw the Aims and
Objectives of London Greenpeace and you said you were not
sure but you had a good reason to believe where it came
       from?
       A. I thought it might have been the Economic League; I
thought it might be the Economic League.

  Q. You said your concern began to stem from that time, that is
what you actually said; "there was concern in my mind"?
       A. Well, there was concern in my mind.

  Q. About the Aims and Objectives?
       A. Yes, building up in 1987/1988, and at some point in
time I got a hold of this thing which said that you had a
great affiliation or a support for them.
