McDonald's Solidarity Picket a Success!

Posted by: J. Adams ( IWW, USA ) on July 15, 1998 at 09:42:11:

Just wanted to report that although the mainstream media basically ignored it, the nationwide solidarity picket was a success, from Macedonia, Ohio to Gainesville, Florida - from Minneapolis to Miami - from Holland, Michigan to Morgantown, West Virginia - from Tallahassee to Richmond IWW members and other supporters came out and picketed McDonalds and handed out leaflets to customers and passers-by. In Gainesville 4 carloads of would-be customers screeched away from the golden arches when they read our multitude of signs -
"WORKERS HAVE A RIGHT TO ORGANIZE" - "STOP UNION-BUSTING AT MCDONALD'S" etc. Two IWW women wrote "Go Union" on their forehead and got their pictures taken for the local press. Also present was a "satanic" Ronald McDonald impersonator who drew alot of attention. Contact with workers was made, (and union interest established) in nearly every city that was picketed. Meanwhile, more workers are walking out from Macedonia, Ohio to Kalamazoo, Michigan to Louisville, Kentucky. Who's next?

Solidarity!
