HG Wells and Socialism

I've just seen the time machine, I reckon they show it on BBC every new year, and I reckon I can detect socialist overtones in some of it, is this just a coincidence or was HG really a bit of a 'red'?

I know Einstein was, so maybe all the really smart people are 'reds'.
